Welcome to the web site of the Diamond Manufacturers Association of Canada (DMAC).

Manufacturing of Canadian diamonds in Canada started in earnest in 1999 in the Northwest Territories following the beginning of diamond mining at the Ekati diamond mine operated by BHP Billiton Diamonds Ltd.

Canadian diamonds are mined in accordance with the principles of sustainable development. They are mined to the highest environmental standards in the world and have greatly benefitted the aboriginal communities in the vicinity of the mines. Canadian diamonds come from that exotic and challenging North of Canada.

Canada is the first country to have put in place tracking systems that allow manufacturers to certify the country of origin.

The association is comprised of 5 members established across Canada.

The DMAC is a member of the International Diamond Manufacturers Association and abides by its Code of Conduct

The objectives of the DMAC are:

  1. To lobby governments on various issues of importance to diamond manufacturers;
  2. To represent diamond manufacturers collectively at specific events and activities;
  3. To explore and improve access to Canadian rough diamonds;
  4. To exchange information and best practices amongst members; and
  5. To conduct any additional activities that would be of interest or to the benefit of diamond manufacturers as a collective group.
